Steven
Whillans

Student at Law

Steven earned his LL.B in Law from the University of Kent in 2021. During his time at Kent, he gained invaluable experience volunteering at the university’s esteemed law clinic, where he collaborated with regional lawyers on the initial stages of several pro bono cases. He also served as a peer mentor, offering academic and emotional support to first-year students navigating the challenges of the COVID-19 pandemic. In his final year, Steven was elected Vice President of the Canadian Law Society. In this role, he supported new students in adapting to life in the UK, organized events and seminars, and helped fundraise to sustain one of the largest Canadian Law Society programs in the country.

Before pursuing his legal education, Steven completed a Bachelor of Arts in Political Science at the University of Victoria, with a focus on international relations and European studies. While at UVic, he was an active member of the Free the Children Society and enjoyed mentoring youth as a middle school basketball coach.

Steven began his articles in Victoria, focusing on Criminal and Family Law. Before transitioning fully to Family Law, Steven gained litigation experience in Criminal Law, including participating in numerous bail hearings and appearing at various levels of the BC Provincial Court. His interest in Family Law was sparked by his work at Kinder Morgan, where he was deeply involved in community engagement and mediating landowner disputes.

Outside of his professional life, Steven is an avid traveler who is always planning his next international adventure. He is actively involved in the basketball and soccer communities and frequently attends live sporting events across the country.
