Job Description
We require a senior Legal Assistant who values organization and takes pride in their work. The ideal candidate would be a self-starter who knows how to move a file forward confidently with minimal direction. They would be tech savvy in all areas of Microsoft and have a firm understanding of scheduling, limitations, and deadlines in a Family Law and Mediation/Arbitration practice. They will be able to anticipate the lawyer’s needs and prepare for the next steps on a file with confidence.
Daily Tasks:
- Drafting, reviewing, and preparing of routine correspondence/pleadings;
- Filing pleadings with various levels of the Courts;
- Organizing, reviewing, and requesting further disclosure;
- Maintaining an efficient filing system, both paper and electronic;
- Liaise with legal assistants, lawyers, and clients on file progress;
- File maintenance, organization, and review, including pulling files for diarizations daily;
- Creating, sending, and processing payment of accounts, using Esi Law;
- Creating Limitation diarization entries;
- Execute Land Titles searches;
- General administrative duties, scanning documents, conflict searches, opening and
closing of files, dictation and any other duties required in a general law office setting.
Requirements:
- Diploma from a Legal Assistant Program;
- Minimum 5 years of experience in Family Law;
- Proficient in MS Office;
- Knowledge or use of EsiLaw accounting system would be an asset;
- Netdocuments or document management experience would be an asset but is not
required; - Excellent attention to detail and proofreading skills;
- Ability to handle multiple competing and urgent deadlines;
- Excellent prioritization skills;
- Positive outlook and ability to work in a team environment;
- Ability to communicate clearly and effectively with counsel, clients, and court staff.
